How to add/get value from the dropdown list?

I have the control with this in: <cc1:MyDropDownItem Value="003300" Text="<span style=&quot;background-color:#003300; width : 50; border : 1px solid #000000;&quot;></span>" /> But it seems like I am having problem from retrieving the value. I tried to use controlid.value, but it seems like it is not working.
